When preparing your shipping label at FedEx for international shipments, the below EEI page will request you to input the AES ITN Number.

Three main fields will be required to be filled out. First one is the AES Citation Type, followed by ITN Number, and last will be the DCS (Destination Control Statement) type.
1. AES Citation Type
Three select options are offered in the first section. The most common selection for most exporters will be the Pre-departure ITN which you completed the AES ITN before shipment departure.

Pre-departure ITN (most common) - refers to the Internal Transaction Number (ITN) that must be filed before a shipment departs from the U.S
​
Post departure ITN - The post-departure filing option is an exception that allows approved exporters to file the EEI up to five working days after the shipment has departed. This option is only available to exporters who have been specifically approved by the government.

AES Downtime - AES downtime is a policy and process for when the Automated Export System (AES) is unavailable, requiring the use of an AES Downtime Citation instead of a normal Internal Transaction Number (ITN). The citation, which looks like AESDOWN FilerID MM/DD/YYYY, serves as temporary proof of filing for an export shipment. During an outage, filers can continue shipping but must file all shipments under the downtime policy once the system is back online.

2. AES Citation Number
Enter the ITN Number in this section starting with the letter X, followed by the numerical digits.
3. DCS Type (Destination Control Statement)
Enter the ITN Number in this section starting with the letter X, followed by the numerical digits.

For the last section, most shipments would fall under "Department of Commerce" for DCS Type. Only goods that are under export restriction or license permit required would belong to Department of State.
